Sensei Corder himself, has been working on making handmade custom Suburito Bokken for suburi practice (sword swinging). These Suburito's average 1 Lbs, 10 oz, to 2 Lbs, 5 oz. All have been made out of exotic hardwoods. The average length of these Suburito's are 41" to 46" and the handles are 12" to 13" in size.
"When I'm working with the wood, each piece has it's own spirit and tells me what the finial shape is going to be."
The woods that are chosen are,
Purple Heart 1860 on the Janka Hardness Scale
Yellow Heart 1820 on the Janka Hardness Scale
Hickory 1820 on the Janka Hardness Scale
African Padauk 1725 on the Janka Hardness Scale
White Oak 1360 on the Janka Hardness Scale
Ash 1320 on the Janka Hardness Scale
Red Oak 1290 on the Janka Hardness Scale
Cocobolo 1136 on the Janka Hardness Scale
As you can see some woods have been laminated to give that special look and feel, not to mention strength.
If you are interested in a special practice weapon, please let us know. We will be happy to talk to you.
